Students' Speeches and Cultural Performances Highlighted Unity, Education and Equality as Essentials of True Freedom
Saiyed Sarawan, Kaushambi, August 15, 2026: The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated at St. Sarang Convent School, Saiyed Sarawan, Kaushambi, with patriotic fervour and national spirit. The programme began with the prayer song “Teri Hai Zameen, Tera Aasman”, followed by the hoisting of the Tricolour by the school patron, Sheikh Abu Saeed Safawi. The National Anthem, “Jana Gana Mana”, was then sung.
Students presented a colourful Tricolour-themed action song highlighting the dignity of the National Flag and the glory of India. A captivating musical and cultural presentation featuring various patriotic songs showcased the country's valour, sacrifices, cultural diversity and spirit of love for the motherland. Through popular patriotic songs such as “Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawanon Ka”, “Mera Joota Hai Japani” and others, the students filled the gathering with patriotic enthusiasm.
Maria, a Class VI student, addressed the gathering in English and described India's cultural and religious diversity as its true strength. She said that despite the country's diverse languages, cultures, traditions and religions, we are all one nation. Referring to Allama Iqbal's well-known verse, “Mazhab Nahin Sikhata Aapas Mein Bair Rakhna”, she conveyed a message of mutual respect, equality, peace and national unity.
Husna Fatima, a Class VII student, addressed the gathering in Hindi and connected the meaning of independence with present-day social responsibilities. She said that merely hoisting the National Flag does not fully convey the complete message of freedom; true freedom will be achieved when every child has access to education, every citizen is treated with dignity and every woman is safe. Drawing attention to social evils such as poverty, child labour, caste discrimination, hatred and corruption, she appealed to students to pursue education with honesty, respect every human being and contribute to the betterment of the country as responsible citizens.
An impactful dramatic presentation featuring the character of Mahatma Gandhi raised the question of whether freedom simply means liberation from foreign rule or whether freedom from poverty, bribery, hatred and social injustice is equally necessary. The presentation conveyed to the students the importance of becoming responsible citizens and playing their part in improving society.
At the conclusion, school teacher Ms. Sani-e-Zahra thanked the management, teachers, staff and students for their participation and efforts. She urged everyone to keep the spirit of unity, respect and patriotism alive at all times.
